Have you heard about Feroza? No, it’s not a Disney made character. Feroza is a real young and smart Muslim Human Rights Activist from Afghanistan living in America. Her video about makeup tutorial became viral because it was not merely a makeup tutorial but it was wakeup tutorial too. Let’s read what she said about her viral video in an interview on american news channel CNN.
CNN: Feroza explain to our viewers around the world why you decided to do this video?
As a Muslim American and an Afghan American I have seen my people been oppressed for their religion and for their nationality. I have always seen this happened and as a human rights activist to hear about innocent Muslims to be thrown into concentration camps by China and it has been trying to be concealed by their government, it just breaks my heart and I know that as a Muslim and as Afghan who saw my own people back in my country to suffer and for other Muslims around the world being oppressed because of their religion, to see what happening in China in such a great magnitude I knew I had to say something about this to spread the word.
CNN: Feroza why did you embed your political message with a beauty tutorial in this way?
I did it for two reasons first reason is that actually no one cares about what is going on in the world right now all they care about, is fashion trends who the new YouTuber is, what new makeup line came up, which new movie came out they don’t really care about what is going on in the real world they don’t care about real problems so I thought if I make this video sounds like a makeup tutorial, people would wanna watch it. And another reason for me to do it because before I did speak about Uighur Muslims and I did it straight to the point but then that video got taken down so I knew that if I did that again like that my video would be taken down so using the eyelashes curler message it helps disguise my video and TikTok will not see this but obviously they have seen it now.
CNN: More than 1.5 million people have watched it just on TikTok, what kind of responses you have?
I have got half of that as positive and other half are saying wow I don’t know its happening why I’m hearing it on TikTok and why not on the news? And I just knew what I did was correct what I did was amazing because I spread this news to a new audience, to the youth and they now know what is happening in our world now and because of using TikTok I reached millions of audience online as the app itself is on Twitter and on Instagram and on Facebook so that’s why I used TikTok
CNN: What did you say when you contacted TikTok (on suspending your account)?
What they are doing is races because Muslims have been tortured and thrown into the concentration camps in China and I’m trying to spread truth about what is happening and innocent Muslims are being killed and tortured for their own religion and TikTok suspending my account for speaking about that and I think what they did for suspending me was extremely oppressive they don’t wan the truth to come out and I want the truth to come out!
